INTEGRATED RELAY DRIVERS SAVE SPACE AND REDUCE COMPONENT COUNT

(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX4820/MAX4821 integrated relay drivers. These devices offer eight independent channels with built-in kickback protection, and drive 3V or 5V single-coil nonlatching, or dual-coil latching relays. Each independent open-drain output features a 2Ω on-resistance and is guaranteed to sink 70mA (min) of coil current. Both devices consume less than 50µA (max) of quiescent current. These relay drivers are ideal for ATE, central office, and industrial equipment.
The MAX4820 features an SPI™-/QSPI™-/MICROWIRE™-compatible serial interface for unlimited scalability. The MAX4821 uses a parallel interface for faster register loading. An independent set and reset function on both devices allows the user to turn on, or turn off all outputs simultaneously with a single control line. Built-in hysteresis (Schmidt trigger) on all digital inputs allows the MAX4820/MAX4821 to be used with slow rising and falling signals, such as those from optocouplers or RC power-up initialization circuits.
The MAX4820/MAX4821 are available in space-saving 4mm x 4mm, 20-pin TQFN and 20-pin TSSOP packages. The devices operate over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C).
