DRIVE BLUE LASER OPTICAL DISC APPLICATIONS AT 2X

SUNNYVALE, CA-December 22, 2003-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3701 2X blue laser driver with integrated sample and hold. A programmable, five-level output and up to 200mA of total output current allow this device to achieve a 0.9ns edge speed with a 8% overshoot. To monitor the optical-output power, this driver integrates a gain-selectable sample and hold circuit. Also integrated is a programmable RF frequency and amplitude control with a range of 200Mhz to 600Mhz and 15mA_PP to 150mA_PP. The MAX3701 does not require any active external components to manage the voltage drop across a blue laser.

The MAX3701 is ideal for all blue laser applications, including high-density optical disc and industrial applications. It is available in a 5mm x 5mm 32-pin QFN package and operates in the 0°C to +70°C temperature range. Prices start at $1.95 (10,000-up, FOB USA).
