NEW 3V, 622Mbps TRANSIMPEDANCE AMPLIFIER PROVIDES HIGH SENSITIVITY WITH MINIMAL POWER CONSUMPTION

SUNNYVALE, CA—January 21, 2000—Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3665 622Mbps, ultra-low-power, +3.3V transimpedance amplifier for SDH/SONET applications. The MAX3665 is designed for PIN photodiode preamplifiers and receivers in SDH/SONET OC-12 transmission systems. This device forms a complete, high-performance 622Mbps receiver when combined with the MAX3676 CDR and limiting amplifier and the MAX3681 1:4 deserializer.

The MAX3665 converts a small photodiode current to a measurable differential voltage. Operating from a single +3.3V to +5.0V supply, the MAX3665 consumes only 70mW of power at 3.3V. The overall transimpedance gain is nominally 8k ohm with a bandwidth of 470MHz. The MAX3665's low 55nARMS input noise provides a typical sensitivity of -33.2dBm in 1300nm, 622Mbps receivers. A DC cancellation circuit provides a true differential output swing over a wide range of input current levels, thus reducing pulse-width distortion. Typical deterministic jitter is just 100ps. The differential outputs are back-terminated with 50 ohms per side.

Available as dice as well as in the 8-pin µMAX package and specified over the extended temperature range (-40°C to 85°C), the MAX3665E/D is priced from $6.50 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
