LAN LASER DRIVER FAMILY COVERS VCSEL, CD, AND LONGWAVE APPLICATIONS FOR 1.25Gbps AND 2.5Gbps
SUNNYVALE, CA-November 16, 1999-Maxim Integrated Products introduces a versatile family of LAN laser drivers designed for multiple applications. The 1.25Gbps MAX3286/MAX3287/MAX3288/MAX3289 are targeted for Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications, and the 2.5Gbps MAX3296/MAX3297/MAX3298/MAX3299 are targeted for multigigabit applications. The MAX3286-MAX3289 family provides up to 30mA of laser modulation current and has only 22ps of deterministic jitter. The MAX3296-MAX3299 family has only 7ps deterministic jitter, while providing up to 30mA modulation current.
All the laser drivers operate on +3.0V to +5.5V power supplies. For lasers with photodetector feedback, an Automatic Power Control circuit adjusts laser bias current to provide constant optical power output. For lasers without a monitor diode, a constant-current mode is provided.
The low 22ps deterministic jitter of the MAX3286-MAX3289 family has a 72% margin to the Gigabit Ethernet specification, providing a large design margin. Laser safety is supported with integrated safety features that provide single-point fault tolerance.
Packaging options include bare die, 16-pin TSSOP-EP (exposed-paddle), and 32-pin TQFP packages that allow applications in Small Form Factor, 1x9, GBIC, and other popular modules. Prices start from $5.93 (1000-up, factory direct, FOB USA) in 16-pin TSSOP packages. |
