110V, CURRENT-MODE PWM CONTROLLERS INTEGRATE A HIGH-VOLTAGE STARTUP FET IN AN 8-PIN SO

SUNNYVALE, CA-November 7, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX5014/MAX5015 PWM controllers designed for compact, high-performance, isolated power supplies for telecom and networking equipment.

The MAX5014/MAX5015 operate from a wide 12V to 110V input voltage range and include a high-voltage preregulator for startup. After startup, however, device power is derived from a low-voltage tertiary winding from the transformer. The MAX5014 operates at an 85% maximum duty cycle and is recommended for isolated flyback converters up to 20W output power. The MAX5015 operates at a 50% maximum duty cycle and is recommended for forward-mode converters up to 60W output power.

Other controller features include current-mode control, leading-edge blanking, shutdown, soft-start, overcurrent shutdown, undervoltage lockout, and thermal shutdown. Oscillator frequency is internally trimmed to 275kHz, which allows use of all surface-mount components.

To speed designs, a fully tested 50W isolated power-supply evaluation kit is available in the standard half-brick module footprint and pin-out. The MAX5014 evaluation kit operates from the telecom (32V to 72V) input voltage range.

Both the MAX5014/MAX5015 are available in an 8-pin SO package and are rated for operation over the extended industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $0.75 (1000-up, FOB USA).
