MAXIM OFFERS THE SMALLEST, ALL-CERAMIC, LOWEST NOISE, 1.4MHz, 1A STEP-DOWN REGULATORS FOR NETWORK AND TELECOM

SUNNYVALE, CA-September 18, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1973 and MAX1974, the smallest 1A step-down regulators for network, telecom, cellular base station, fiber modules, wireless modems and xDSL equipment. Occupying only 0.19in2, each device operates at a constant 1.4MHz switching frequency over the load range and minimizes noise interference (unlike the competitors' products that skip pulses at light loads).

The MAX1973/MAX1974 operate from a 2.6V to 5.5V input and generate output voltages as low as 0.75V (MAX1974) with 1% accuracy over load, line, and temperature variations. 1.4MHz current-mode PWM operation reduces the size of external components, provides excellent transient response, and ensures operation outside the ADSL band. Both devices deliver 1A output with small 4.7µF input and output ceramic capacitors.

The MAX1973's output can be shifted by ±5% (max) with voltage margining digital inputs to simplify board level production testing. The MAX1974 features a power-OK indicator that monitors output voltage.

Pricing for the MAX1973EUB and MAX1974EUB starts at $1.65 (1000-up, FOB, USA). Both devices are available in small 10-pin µMAX packages and are specified for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
