150mA SOT23 LDO REGULATORS WITH POWER-OK FLAG PROVIDES LONGEST BATTERY LIFE

SUNNYVALE, CA-November 5, 1999-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX8875 and MAX8885, low-dropout (LDO) linear regulators offering ±1% initial voltage accuracy, low dropout voltage, and a Power-OK output that signals when the output voltage drops out of regulation by 5%.

Several important features in these devices extend battery life in cell phones, PCMCIA cards, modems, and other hand-held portable equipment. The P-channel MOSFET regulator output allows the MAX8875/MAX8885 to maintain low-dropout voltage (110mV at 100mA) and low supply current (100µA) at any load up to 150mA. (Linear regulators with PNP outputs can have supply currents of several milliamps at full load.) To further conserve power, a logic-controlled shutdown reduces supply current to less than 1µA.

The MAX8875 requires only a tiny 1µF ceramic capacitor at the output to guarantee stability at all loads up to 150mA. The MAX8885 is optimized to operate with a low-cost, high-ESR tantalum output capacitor.

Preset output voltages are available with ±1% initial accuracy at 2.5V, 2.7V, 3.0V, 3.3V, and 5.0V. Other features include thermal-overload short-circuit and reverse-battery protection. The MAX8875EUK-T and MAX8885EUK-T come in ultra-small 5-pin SOT23 packages and are screened for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start from $0.77 (2500-up, FOB USA).
