DUAL-RATE FIBRE CHANNEL LIMITING AMPLIFIER

Note to Editor: The MAX3274 is the only dual-rate Fibre Channel limiting amplifier in the market.
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 9, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3274 3.3V, dual-rate 1.0625Gbps/2.125Gbps Fibre Channel limiting amplifier with programmable loss-of-signal thresholds. The MAX3275/MAX3277 transimpedance amplifier and the MAX3274 limiting amplifier form a 2-chip solution for dual-rate Fibre Channel receiver modules. The MAX3274 has an on-chip 4th-order Bessel Thompson filter that provides a bandwidth-select function for true dual-rate operation. The filter also suppresses relaxation oscillation from legacy CD-laser based transmitters.

Operating from a single 3.3V supply, the MAX3274 features a 10mV input sensitivity while consuming less than 260mW. The limiting amplifier provides a bandwidth of 1.7GHz for 2Gbps operation and 890MHz for 1Gbps operation. It has a programmable signal-detect function that can be set to different assert and deassert levels. The MAX3274 features low 10ps deterministic jitter and 3.8ps random jitter (at 2Gbps operation). It accepts input voltages from 10mV to 1200mV and typically provides a 1200mV output.

The MAX3274 is available in a 4mm x 4mm 16-pin QFN package over the industrial temperature range (0°C to +85°C). Prices start at $9.00 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
