FIRST ±0.5°C ACCURACY DIGITAL TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN µSOP PACKAGE

DALLAS, TX-January 21, 2002-Dallas Semiconductor introduces the DS1631 digital thermometer and thermostat, which in its µSOP package is the smallest ±0.5°C accurate digital temperature sensor on the market. As electronics decrease in size, PC board real estate has become increasingly valuable, while the need for precise thermal management has reached critical proportions. The DS1631 offers an ideal solution for applications that face these challenges. Its µSOP footprint is only half the size of a 150mil 8-SO, previously the smallest package option for ±0.5°C digital thermometers. Its ±0.5°C accuracy provides the tight thermal control needed for maximum circuit performance.

The DS1631 provides 9-, 10-, 11-, or 12-bit digital temperature readings over a -55°C to +125°C range, with ±0.5°C accuracy over a 0°C to +70°C range. It has thermostat functionality with nonvolatile (EEPROM) user-defined trip points that allow the user to customize the threshold temperature and output hysteresis. Communication with the DS1631 is achieved through a standard 2-wire serial interface.

Typical applications for the DS1631 include network routers and switches, cellular base stations, and portable products; however, the DS1631’s high accuracy and small size can benefit any space-constrained, thermally sensitive application. Prices start at $1.77 (1000-up, FOB USA).
