+5V, RS-485/RS-422 TRANSCEIVERS ADHERE TO PROFIBUS STANDARDS

Note to Editors: The MAX3460–MAX3464 are truly significant products. These are Maxim’s first products that operate at 20Mbps (previous devices only operated up to 12Mbps), and meet Profibus specifications (more stringent than the RS-485 standard).
SUNNYVALE, CA-December 4, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3460–MAX3464 high-speed RS-485/RS-422 transceivers. These devices are guaranteed to operate at data rates up to 20Mbps with propagation delays under 20ns and skews under 2ns, meeting Profibus specifications. In addition, these devices feature a 1/4 unit load receiver input impedance, allowing 128 transceivers on the bus and making them ideal for high-speed networking applications.

The MAX3460–MAX3464 operate from a single +5V supply, and the MAX3460/MAX3461/MAX3463/MAX3464 consume only 1µA in shutdown mode. The MAX3460/MAX3463 are designed with hot-swap circuitry, eliminating false transitions on the data lines during power-up and hot insertion. This family of devices features true fail-safe receiver inputs, which guarantee a logic high receiver output when the receiver inputs are open or shorted. Both half-duplex (MAX3463/MAX3464) and full-duplex (MAX3460/MAX3461/MAX3462) versions are available, allowing the user to find an ideal part for any application.

The MAX3460/MAX3461 are available in the commercial and extended temperature ranges in a 14-pin SO or 14-pin DIP package, while the MAX3462/MAX3463/MAX3464 are available in the commercial and extended temperature ranges in an 8-pin SO or 8-pin DIP package. Prices start at $2.92 (1000-up, FOB USA).
