LOW-POWER, COMPACT 3.3V, 2.5Gbps LASER DRIVER WITH AUTOMATIC POWER CONTROL
SUNNYVALE, CA-October 2, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX3273 +3.3V, 2.5Gbps laser driver with automatic power control. The MAX3273 laser driver, the MAX3271 transimpedance amplifier, and the MAX3272* limiting amplifier form a 3-chip solution for fiber optic modules. Manufactured using Maxims second-generation in-house SiGe process, the MAX3273 has a small form-factor, ultra-low power consumption and excellent jitter performance. It is ideal for applications in OC-48/STM-16 transmission systems such as add/drop multiplexers and digital cross-connects.
Operating from a single +3.3V supply, the MAX3273 has a programmable bias current range of 1mA to 100mA and a programmable modulation current range of 5mA to 60mA, while consuming less than 100mW of power. The MAX3273 accepts differential CML compatible inputs and incorporates an automatic average power control circuit with a failure monitor. An input data-retiming latch can be enabled to reject input jitter if a clock signal is available. Jitter performance exceeds ITU/Bellcore SDH/SONET specifications with only 3ps pulse-width distortion and 1psVRMS random jitter.
Available in a 4mm x 4mm 24-pin QFN package or as die, the MAX3273 is priced at $9.95 (1000-up, suggested resale, FOB USA). The MAX3273 is tested over the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Evaluation kits are available.
