SiGe DUAL LNA INCREASES SENSITIVITY PERFORMANCE FOR GSM DUAL-BAND PHONES

    Note to Editor: This GSM dual LNA provides the lowest noise figure performance (1.2dB vs. IBM's 1.5dB on the latest IBM43RF1113 GSM dual LNA) and comes in the smallest package in the industry (10-pin µMAX, 4.9mm x 3.0mm vs. IBM's 16-pin TSSOP, 6.4mm x 5.1mm, 120% larger).

SUNNYVALE, CA-July 30, 1999-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX2651/MAX2653 SiGe low-noise amplifiers (LNAs) capable of operation at the GSM900, DCS1800, and PCS1900 bands. Fabricated using Maxim's advanced SiGe bipolar process, these LNAs provide very low noise figure, high gain, and high linearity. They include a 20dB attenuation step to further improve receiver sensitivity and dynamic range performance in today's GSM dual-band and triple-band cellular phones.

The MAX2651 consists of two LNAs: One is optimized for the GSM900 band and provides a low noise figure of 1.2dB and a high gain of 18dB; the other is optimized for the DCS1800 band and provides a low 1.8dB noise figure and a high gain of 18dB. The device is housed in a miniature 10-pin µMAX package measuring only 4.9mm x 3.0mm (including leads).

The MAX2653 consists of one LNA optimized for operation at both the DCS1800 and PCS1900 bands. It provides 1.7dB noise figure and 18.5dB gain at the DCS band, or 1.8dB noise figure and 18.5dB gain at the PCS band. It is housed in a miniature 8-pin µMAX package with the same footprint size as the 10-pin µMAX. Additionally, the MAX2653 features a 1µA low-power shutdown mode.

Both devices operate on a single +2.7 to +3.3V supply and draw <6mA in the high-gain mode and 2.2mA in the low-gain mode. Prices start from $1.27 (1000-up, FOB USA) for the MAX2651 and $1.19 for the MAX2653. Fully assembled evaluation kits (MAX2651EVKIT/MAX2653EVKIT) are available to help reduce design time.
