2W, SINGLE-CHANNEL, MONO/STEREO, CLASS-D, AUDIO POWER AMPS OPERATE DOWN TO +2.7V

SUNNYVALE, CA-November 9, 2000-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX4295/MAX4297 family of mono/stereo Class-D (switch-mode) audio power amplifiers guaranteed to operate from a single +2.7V to +5.5V supply. They are capable of delivering up to 2W/channel of continuous power to a 4-ohm load with greater than 87% efficiency. These features make them ideal for speaker/headphone drivers in portable multimedia and other general-purpose audio applications that require either high efficiency or low heat dissipation.

These Class-D amplifiers feature a total harmonic distortion (THD+N) of less than 0.4%, low quiescent current (2.8mA for the MAX4295, 4.6mA for the MAX4297), high efficiency, and clickless/popless power-up and shutdown mode. The active-low shutdown input disables the device and limits the supply current to less than 1.5µA. Other features include an over current limit of 1A, thermal overload protection, undervoltage lockout, and a user-programmable switching frequency (125kHz, 250kHz, 500kHz, 1MHz) that allows the user to optimize the size and cost of the output filter for specific applications.

The mono MAX4295 is available in a space-saving 16-pin QSOP and a 16-pin SO package, while the stereo MAX4297 is offered in 24-pin SSOP and 24-pin SO packages. Prices for the MAX4295 start from $1.45 (1000-up, FOB USA).
