Industry's First Security Manager with Hierarchical Secure Nonimprinting Memory and Tamper Detection

Maxim's new security manager, the DS3644, uses a patented nonimprinting memory scheme to provide the industry's highest level of security

SUNNYVALE, CA—June 1, 2010—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the DS3644, a security manager with 1024 bytes of nonimprinting memory to securely store sensitive data. Internal tamper monitors protect against clock, electrical, and temperature tampering, while tamper-detection inputs for external sensors enable complete customization. The on-chip nonimprinting memory allows the end user to selectively clear the memory based on user-specified tamper events. This patented memory scheme* ensures immediate data erasure in response to tampering, thus improving system security over SRAM-based implementations. The DS3644 is most appropriate for applications that require a higher level of security, like government and military systems, as well as any application where more than one tamper trigger needs to be monitored.

The DS3644 is an ultra-low-power product that provides tamper detection regardless of the power source. An on-chip battery-backup controller constantly monitors the main power (V_CC) and automatically switches to the battery (V_BAT) when the main power is too low or not present at all. Drawing only 4µA of battery current, the DS3644 can retain critical information and monitor for tampers while on battery power.

The DS3644 is fully specified over the -55°C to +95°C extended temperature range. It is available in a 7mm x 7mm, lead-free, 49-ball CSBGA.
