SMALLEST, HIGHEST-FREQUENCY, 2A STEP-DOWN DC-DC WITH INTERNAL SWITCHES
SUNNYVALE, CA-June 7, 1999-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1644, the smallest, highest-frequency, highly efficient 2A DC-DC power supply with internal switches. This device is ideal for use in PC cards, CPU daughter cards, and bus-termination boards. It features built-in 0.1 ohm (typ) internal N-channel and P-channel MOSFETS to provide rectification, thus minimizing external components and improving efficiency to as high as 95%.
The MAX1644 features a programmable constant-off-time, current-mode (PWM) control scheme with switching frequencies as high as 350kHz; this scheme also includes a unique Idle Mode PFM to maintain high efficiency during light-load operation. The MAX1644 produces a preset +3.3V or +2.5V output, or an adjustable +1.1V to +3.8V output voltage. The input voltage ranges as low as +3V to +5.5V. Other features include 1% output accuracy, adjustable soft-start for limiting inrush current, 240µA typical supply current, and less than 1µA shutdown supply current.
The MAX1644 is available in a space-saving 16-pin SSOP package and is screened for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start from $4.08 (1000-up, FOB USA). A preassembled MAX1644EVKIT is available with recommended external components to reduce design time.
