SUNNYVALE, CA—October 31, 2006—Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX6604, a small and low-cost temperature sensor designed for thermal monitoring in DDR memory modules. This device accurately measures temperature (±1°C), converts the temperature to digital format, and makes it available over an I2C-compatible interface.

The MAX6604 continuously monitors the temperature and updates the temperature data eight times per second. This method enhances processing performance by providing a highly accurate reading of the module temperature. Competitive techniques that use temperature sensors on motherboards and guardbands to estimate memory module temperature are much less accurate. Offered in the tiny TDFN and TSSOP packages, the MAX6604 also includes three address inputs which allow up to eight addresses for this device. The combination of these features makes the MAX6604 the ideal choice in high-performance memory modules for notebook computers.

The MAX6604 operates from -20°C to +125°C and works from a 3.0V to 5.5V supply voltage range. Prices start at $0.95 (2500-up, FOB USA).
