Raleigh, the capital of the state of North Carolina, is known as the "City of Oaks" for its many oak trees. The cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill make up the three historically primary cities of the Research Triangle metropolitan region.
Downtown ("Old") Raleigh is home to historic neighborhoods and buildings such as the Sir Walter Raleigh Hotel built in the early 20th century, the restored City Market, and the Fayetteville Street downtown business district. The area is close to many lakes and parks for recreational activities, and is within 120 miles of the Atlantic coast to the east and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west.
The Raleigh metropolitan area is one of the fastest growing communities in the nation with a current population of around three million. North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Duke University are all located within 20 miles of the Maxim facility and provide the points from which the Research Triangle area derives its nickname. Maxim's Raleigh Design Center is located in the northern portion of the Metropolitan Raleigh, NC area. There are two different mixed-signal groups located at this site: Multimedia and Automotive.
