Champaign, Illinois is a city surrounded by farm communities with the feel of a small Midwestern town. The city is home to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, which it shares with its sibling city of Urbana. The commercial district of Campustown serves as the entertainment and retail center for students at the university. Thanks to the university and a number of well known technology startup companies, Champaign is often referred to as the hub of, or at least a significant landmark of, the "Silicon Prairie."

The city features a large technology and software industry mostly focusing around research and development of new technologies. Champaign houses offices for seven Fortune 500 companies, and two more are scheduled to arrive soon. Champaign is also home to nationally-recognized record labels, artist management companies, booking agencies, and recording studios, and features numerous cultural and sports activities.

Maxim's Champaign design office was started in September 2000. Employees at the site work on IC design and characterization for the SSIP Business Unit and are focused on ISM RF (industrial, scientific, and medical radio frequency) wireless products.
