Located at the heart of the Belledonne, Vercors, and Chartreuse mountain ranges, the city of Grenoble features a beautiful geographic location and natural environment. Residents and visitors alike enjoy a number of leisure activities, including hiking, rock climbing, cycling, and skiing. Historically, both Grenoble and the surrounding areas were sites of mining and heavy industry. Abandoned mills and factories can be found in small towns and villages.

Grenoble experienced a period of economic expansion in the 19th and 20th centuries, symbolized by the holding of the X Olympic Winter Games in 1968. The city is now a significant scientific center in Europe and one of the leading European cities in terms of high-tech industries, especially bio- and nano-technologies. World-renowned enterprises have settled in Grenoble and in the surrounding area. The city's population also contains a large student population, making Grenoble a cosmopolitan city constantly on the move and open to the rest of the world.

Maxim Grenoble Design Center is located on the campus of Grenoble University. The site is part of Maxim's Handheld Power Business Unit and focuses primarily on the design of Power Management ICs for smart phone applications. This includes analog designs for the following: battery chargers, LED drivers, linear & switching regulators, references, USB switches, inter-integrated circuits, and real-time clocks.
