Orlando, Florida, located in Orange County, is the center of the Greater Orlando metropolitan region. Originally the center of a major citrus-growing region, Orlando is now known as a major tourism destination with attractions including the nearby Walt Disney World Resort, the Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld.
Orlando is also a major industrial and high technology center. The city is a short drive from Patrick Air Force Base, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Kennedy Space Center, and Port Canaveral, an important cruise ship terminal. Because of its proximity to the Space Coast, a region around the Kennedy Space Center where NASA launches its space shuttles, many high-tech companies have relocated to the Orlando area. Orlando is also home to the University of Central Florida, the largest university campus by student enrollment in the state of Florida.
The Melbourne Design Center (MDC) is located about 70 miles outside of Orlando in Melbourne, Florida. Opened in 2000, the site has office space, a development/test lab, and a test floor, and is home to a team that develops a variety of different products. These include ASICs for military and commercial customers, PMICs for cars and computer notebooks, touchscreen and keyboard controller ICs for cell and smart phones, and power detector ICs for base stations. The Wireless, SP&C, Notebook, Battery and Display, and Communications and Timing Business Units are all represented at MDC.
