This looks like a potentially useful part but the lack of a precision sync slice (i.e. 50% slice) is a serious shortcoming.

The MAX9566 is designed to handle only component video signal (Y/G channel) to extract timing information. The sync separator can process SD and HD interlace or progressive component video but not CVBS signal without previous processing (gain correction and sub-carrier extraction). The MAX9566 also processes standard SD sync and HD 3-level sync. Component video does not requires adaptive sync slicing because the Y/G channel (usually) has correct sync amplitude and very low noise.
