Si,
The best circuit depends on the current you expect to draw from the battery. The two most common approaches are the LDO regulator and the DC-DC converter. This application note, http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/an_pk/751, provides a very good tutorial that includes some example circuits.
