I've got a laptop with a smart battery equipped with MAX1781 charge controller. The Li-Ion cells in the battery are weared up to 98% (the battery can hold for less than 10 minutes) and I'm about to replace them with new ones. Can you answer several questions for me?
1. Will the controller lose its memory after losing power on its connectors and therefore stop working? I think that it would not since it's an EEPROM, but some people over the Internet recommend to keep DC power on the controller while replacing old cells with new ones.
2. What will happen if new cells will be of the greater capacity than old ones?
