This looks like a great circuit, I am going to try it right away. I am considering using a +5v from a non-USB source, would this work? Or does this circuit have very specific voltage range? One other question: will this bring the phono output to line level for use of a linear single supply amplifier? Thank you for your work on this!

I can't locate the author but I looked at the circuit and it looks like it would work from any 5V DC supply. In fact, I think you could omit the LDO that drops it to 3.3V -- if the 5V supply is quiet. The LDO will remove any ripple or other variations on the 5V supply.

You can use this with any clean 5V source. The application discussed in the article was to solve a specific customer application where a usb source was to be used. This circuit is intended for a single supply so the output should be ok.
