APPLICATION NOTE 794

HFAN-04.0.3: Jitter in Digital Communication Systems, Part 1

Abstract: In digital communications, binary encoded information (a sequence of 1's and 0's) is sent from a transmitter to one or more receivers. The transmission medium between the transmitter and receiver (the channel) may be copper cable, fiber optics, free space, etc. Major design goals of most digital communication systems include maximizing bandwidth efficiency and minimizing bit error ratio (BER).
