Abstract: High Frequency Reference Design (HFRD) 20.2 is a fully functional 1310nm EML transceiver targeted for the XFP multi-source agreement (MSA). The design showcases the Maxim MAX3991 clock/data recovery IC with integrated limiting amplifier, the MAX3992 transmit data retimer with equalizer, the MAX3941 EML driver and the Dallas DS1862 XFP Laser control/digital diagnostic IC. Numerous other Maxim ICs are also included in the design. Data rates ranging from 9.95 to 10.7Gbps are supported in this reference design. Gerber files and schematics may be provided, however reference design boards are no longer available.
